TOP MOVIES OF FALL 2021

I’ve had the chance to assist to a few opening cinema screenings these past few months and I want to share with you all the best movies coming out so far of 2021 🙂 !

5. Copshop

On the run from a lethal assassin, a wily con artist devises a scheme to hide out inside a small-town police station. However, when the hit man turns up at the precinct, an unsuspecting rookie cop finds herself caught in the crosshairs.

One of the most entertaining movie of the year. Copshop has successfully captured the pure joy of action and humour while having the characters constrained in the same piece. It also helps that it comes with a soundtrack that will stuck with you for hours.

4. Spencer

The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumors of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be profoundly different. SPENCER is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.

Kristen Stewart in Spencer has been a blessing to this world. Not only this movie is compelling, but deals with mental health on a whole new level. It’s very hard to describe a breakthrough kind of genre, but all I know is this movie will stay with me for a long time. The film is slow-paced and thouthful (I admit my eyes fell asleep for like 5 mins) but it doesn’t take away from its quality. The music adds such an intensity to the whole biopic that you can’t help but wonder how scarily good Kristen Steward was to embody Diana Spencer.

3. The French Dispatch

A love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city that brings to life a collection of stories published in “The French Dispatch.”

Probably Wes Anderson’s finest in my opinion, The French Dispatch is a dedication to art in every single form : literature, painting, culinary arts. With its typical aesthetics and color palettes, he managed to wrap all around a single magazine format called The French Dispatch with the help of an all-star cast. And yes, it looks like Timothee Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan are a package deal.

2. The Last Duel

Based on actual events, the film unravels long-held assumptions about France’s last sanctioned duel between Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris, two friends turned bitter rivals.

Ridley Scott has managed to portray a historical moment in the form of a powerful message. I still remember when I learned about this duel during my years in France. It’s interesting to see the layout he has laid out for this movie. Playing with the medieval suspense and thrillers, to the place of chivalry, honors but the most imporantly, the real place of women in those days.

1. Le Meilleur Pays du Monde (The Best Country in the World)

My favourite movie of this Fall is a movie directed by Ky Nam Le Duc, from Quebec. It’s a raw story which I feel particularly compelled to. It speaks to me on so many levels, because of my vietnamese descent but also of the conflictual nature of immigration and belonging in a new country. This movie is on my top list because Ky Nam Le has managed to depict the complexity behind this new life. Each character is nuanced, there’s no us vs them, there’s only human beings with their own struggles living in the same town.

What do you think? What are your favourite movies so far and which ones are you looking forward to?

It’s a shame that the Last Duel is being torn apart by movie critics it seems .

Yes it is a shame 😦 This is one of those movies where I personally don’t agree with the critics hahaha but as movies and books go, it’s always subjective 😂
